What is Invisalign? Breaking Things Down
Invisalign is a nearly invisible way to improve your smile in the most minimally invasive way possible. At its core, Invisalign works thanks to a series of clear aligner trays that are fitted to the precise shape of your teeth. Every week, you swap the trays out for a new set that has been specifically adjusted – thus allowing your teeth to gently move in small increments over the course of your treatment.
Unlike braces, Invisalign trays can be removed – meaning that you don’t have to avoid chewy or hard foods like you otherwise would with braces. Likewise, because Invisalign trays are carefully sculpted to your particular teeth, many people find them much more comfortable.
What Type of Technology is Used in Invisalign?
A precise scan that measures each and every tooth will be taken of your teeth. The level of 3D scanning used during this process takes an exceptionally clear image of the teeth as they exist today. It is then possible to see a virtual simulation of what Invisalign can accomplish for your smile. What Are the Major Benefits of Invisalign?
Many people see Invisalign as a worthy alternative to metal and wire braces for a number of different reasons. Maybe the biggest of them is their inherent flexibility. While you should wear your Invisalign trays a minimum of 22 hours a day (recommended by Invisalign), they CAN be removed during special occasions – so if you want to have that big celebratory meal for your birthday without worrying about what you can and cannot eat, there’s nothing to stop you.
Likewise, Invisalign typically requires fewer visits to the orthodontic office and less time for each appointment. Just as would be true with braces, you’ll still make regular appointments so that your orthodontist can check on your progress.
Finally, it’s easier to maintain your highest level of dental hygiene with Invisalign. You don’t have to worry about food getting stuck in between or even behind your trays (always remove your trays when eating and drinking anything but water), and the trays themselves are easy to clean – just pop them out of your mouth and brush them when you brush your teeth!
