Braces have come a long way in the past few decades, and are more comfortable and effective than ever. At Dailey Orthodontics, we offer an array of treatment options to keep you and your family smiling. Dr. Curtis Dailey and our team have provided exceptional care to more than 10,000 children, teens, and adults throughout the Virginia Peninsula. We offer traditional metal braces, clear ceramic braces, and other orthodontic treatment options – we’re dedicated to helping you find solutions to meet your specific needs.
In addition to being certified as an orthodontist, Dr. Dailey has specialty training as a pediatric dentist, which gives him a deep understanding of all aspects of dental treatment for young children and teens.
The American Association of Orthodontics (AAO) recommends that children see an orthodontist by the age of seven. In some cases, early prevention orthodontics can be an effective way to treat problems like crowded or crooked teeth, an underbite, overbite, or a misaligned jaw in younger children.
Traditional braces and other orthodontic treatments can give adult teeth more space to come in and may eliminate the need to have teeth pulled later in life. Of course, braces can also provide your child with a healthy, beautiful smile that gives their self-confidence a boost.
There are many different reasons why a teen might need braces, including bite problems, jaw issues, and crooked or crowded teeth. In the early teens, their bodies are still very much a work in progress and the jaw and other bones are still growing. Correcting dental issues with orthodontics sooner rather than later not only provides significant health benefits, braces offer results that include a vibrant, healthy smile your teen will want to show off.
Contrary to what many people think, braces aren’t just for youngsters. In fact, adult jaws are already developed – which means that if you get braces later on in life, there is less of a chance you’ll need to repeat some type of orthodontic treatment as you get older.
Traditional metal braces have been around for more than 100 years. Many consider these to be bulky and noticeable, but advances in orthodontics have made metal braces much smaller, more comfortable, and more effective at correcting dental issues. Metal brackets are cemented to the teeth and connected with a wire. The wire is attached to the braces using elastic ties that are available in a variety of colors. You’ll visit our office every 4-8 weeks so your orthodontist can make adjustments, which gradually shift teeth.
Ceramic braces work the same way as traditional metal braces but are less visible. The brackets are made of a clear, tooth-colored ceramic material that provides a more natural aesthetic. Typically, ceramic braces are slightly larger than metal braces and can stain. Regardless of the type of braces you choose, taking proper care of them and being meticulous about dietary restrictions and your oral hygiene routine is critical to keeping your teeth healthy and achieving the results you desire.
At Dailey Orthodontics, we offer two types of clear aligners, the Invisalign ® system, and BOOST aligners. They utilize a series of clear, removable, custom-made aligners that provide a comfortable, discreet way to straighten teeth and correct dental issues. Whether you’re a candidate for clear aligners instead of traditional braces will depend on your specific needs.
Each patient is unique, but on average, our cases at Dailey Orthodontics take anywhere from 16-24 months. We utilize and integrate advanced technology into every treatment plan and strive to provide successful orthodontic treatment in the healthiest, most effective way possible. Your initial consultation is free, and Dr. will create a customized treatment plan that can put you on the road to a healthier, more beautiful smile.
